How much does a home EV charging station cost?

In the short term, choosing a charging station for your electric car at home seems to entail quite a few costs. Firstly you need to purchase the charging station itself which will include an installation cost, in addition to this you will have the periodic costs of the subscription that comes with the charging station.

Once the installation is complete, you can start to “earn”. Home charging is much cheaper than public charging, even with the periodic subscription added to it. In the UK, the average home’s electricity rate is 14p per kWh, whilst fast public charging can cost double that with rates of up to 30p per kWh!

Government subsidy for charging at home

Currently in the UK, qualifying properties are eligible for the Government’s EV chargepoint grant. This grant allows eligible buyers to claim up to £350 off the cost of purchasing & installing an EV charging station.

How do I get a charging station installed at home?

Interested in a home charging station? Understandable, given the many benefits. As it is extremely unwise to install a charging station yourself, we recommend that you should seek a properly certified installer.

Therefore, all of our tailor-made charging station quotations include installation by one of our own authorised installers. This way you can be safe in the knowledge that your EV charger is properly and safely installed.

EV charger installation

After you have requested a quote, one of our team will prepare a quote that is precisely tailored to your situation and wishes. Should the team require more information to create your quotation they will contact you within 48 hours of your quote request. Once progressed to install, the installer will take all necessary steps to prepare the installation adhering to all NICEIC guidelines.

The next step is to install the charging station itself. Here the installer will mount the EV charger in the desired location either hung on a wall or mounted by pole, making sure to bury and conceal the cable where requested or necessary. Finally, the charging station is connected and activated. Afterwards the installer will ensure the work area is left cleaned and check that everything is working correctly. Of course, the installer will also have time to explain your new charging system and answer and questions you may have.

EV charger types

Depending on where you plan to have a charge station installed whether it be a domestic or commercial property, there are a few things you will need to think about. For example, do you want a 1-phase or 3-phase charging station? Do you choose dynamic load balancing or not? Are you having the station mounted on a wall or a pole? The type of charging station depends on various factors such as the type of electric car, the situation with your property and of course your budget and preferences.
