Customer spotlight: DON Opleidingen

In June 2021, we installed two EVBox BusinessLine charging stations at DON Opleidingen. This training centre was looking for charging stations for its learner vehicles, as well as for customers’ and employees’ cars. Both DON Opleidingen and 50five look back on the project positively. We spoke with Marco van Veen, Facility Manager at DON Opleidingen, about his experience with 50five.

How did you experience the overall process with 50five?

"I was looking for charging stations for our new learner vehicles at DON Opleidingen, but also for the cars of customers and employees. We see a future in electric driving. I was doing some research online and came across 50five. I immediately requested a quote so I could compare it with others. The overall package looked good, so I got in touch. The 50five account manager then actively helped us think through how the project should be realised.

The installation itself also went smoothly. Van Veen looks back on the process positively: “The service from start to finish was simply good.”

Why did you ultimately choose 50five?

“When comparing the quotes, I thought all parties presented themselves well. However, 50five stood out slightly more because of its appearance and the overall quotation itself. With other parties, the excavation work and cable routing inside the building were either not included or handled by third parties. With 50five, this was included, meaning you only have one point of contact.”

Van Veen adds: “Looking back, I have absolutely no regrets.”

DON Opleidingen and electric driving

“To be well prepared for the future, in addition to the two EVBox charging points, we also had the connections for additional charging stations installed. If we want to expand, the option is already there.”

Van Veen continues: “As a driving school, it is currently not ideal to switch completely to electric vehicles. There are still many manual cars on the road, and because electric cars are always automatic, we exclude other groups if we choose to offer driving lessons entirely in electric vehicles. At the moment, you are not allowed to simply drive a manual car if you learned to drive in an automatic. In some countries, learning to drive in an automatic is already the standard.

If you also want to drive a manual car, you need to take a number of additional lessons to learn how to change gears. If this kind of legislation were introduced in the Netherlands, switching completely to electric vehicles would become much easier.”

Van Veen continues: “Eventually, automatic cars will become the new standard. From that moment on, driving lessons in electric vehicles will also increase significantly.”
